Wemakeprice, South Korea’s largest online retailer, is planning to add 12 cryptocurrencies to its payments platform OneThePay, in collaboration with the country’s biggest cryptocurrency exchange, Bithumb, Yonhap News reports.

Twelve cryptocurrencies are expected to be integrated within the e-commerce platform, including bitcoin, ether, ripple, and litecoin. Local media outlet Yonhap speculates that the remaining nine cryptocurrencies to become available for payments on Wemakeprice are Qtum (QTUM), Dash (DASH), Ethereum Classic (ETC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Monero (XMR), ZCash (ZEC), Bitcoin Gold (BTG), EOS (EOS).

Although Bithumb will be involved in the integration process, no prior registration with Bithumb will be necessary for users who make cryptocurrency payments on the Wemakeprice platform.

“Integrating cryptocurrencies is a part of our initiative to make payments more convenient for our consumers and clients. We consider mobile fintech apps, points, and cryptocurrencies as efficient payment methods,” a Wemakeprice spokesperson reportedly told HanKyoReh.

A different article published by local media outlet Kpinews claims that the Yonhap News reports are, in fact, no more than a partnership proposal made by Bithumb that was rejected by Wemakeprice. Kpinews quotes an alleged Wemakeprice representative that has refuted the cryptocurrency integration rumors.

Yamada Denki, Japan’s largest consumer electronics retailer has recently announced it was carrying out trials on bitcoin payments, in partnership with Japanese cryptocurrency exchange BitFlyer.

For the trial, two Yamada Denki stores have already started accepting bitcoin. According to BitFlyer, the retailer aims to deploy bitcoin payments nationwide.

“We will implement initiatives to improve bitcoin recognition and usage promotion. With the introduction of bitcoin payment service, we respond to the diverse needs of our customers both in Japan and overseas. We believe that we can provide improved service and convenience,” the company said.
